Bat For Lashes Strips Down

The last time Natasha Kahn disappeared into the wilderness for a three-year leave of absence she returned with glitter on her cheeks and the sensuously serene lead single “Daniel”.

Fast forward to 2012 and Natasha is back in Bat For Lashes mode, and this time she’s left the glitter at home. In fact she’s left all her clothes behind, as she stands strident and nude, resignedly glaring with her prey (a rather anemic looking male) draped over her shoulders on the cover of the The Haunted Man.

It’s quite the striking statement, the kind that will either be heralded or ridiculed by the year’s end. Still if the peaks and falls of the intensely isolated “Laura” are anything to go by, we can expect an equally stark unguarded LP. New territory for Kahn, whose piercing sentiments are often cloaked in seethingly beautiful beats and her own off kilter, and often unnerving, quirks.
