Example – Say Nothing

This week Fulham native Example (real name Elliot Gleave) gave us the first taste of what we can expect from his yet to be titled fourth album. Having sampled ‘Say Nothing’, I can safely say that it left a bitter residue in my musical pallet.
Gleave claims that his latest venture is going to be his first ‘rock’ influenced album. Talking about the record he stated: ”It’s going to be a rock album but produced electronically – every track’s got huge guitar riffs. I’m pretty much singing and trying to do impressions of Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters.”
The end result is a weird mish-mash of electronica, overlaid with over compressed guitars that sound like they have been tracked using ProTools plugins. All of the aforementioned, coupled with ‘Radio 1 friendly’ sequenced beats and Examples trademark narcissistic lyrics about his relationship’s with girls, equal a very bland track, which much to Glave’s disappointment, won’t reach the dizzying heights of Ten or The Colour & The Shape.
