Guess Who’s Back: Crystal Castles

Today Crystal Castles released a brilliant new track, ‘Plague’, onto their Soundcloud (with a free download link!).
The song has exactly what you’d expect from the Toronto-based electronic duo: lots of Alice Glass’ high-pitched screams and equal amounts of frantic synth that makes you want to punch things. Dually, though, there are moments where the song takes off on a more mellow tangent with Glass adopting a lulling, chant-like voice as a more ambient beat takes control of the song. It’s definitely a more toned down track compared to Baptism, the stand out song from their 2010 self-titled album.
As its almost been two years between drinks for the band, this new track definitely suggests that there’s a new album in the works. And, having recently booked summer festivals in Australia (promo tour, anyone?) it’s possibly close to being released.
In the meantime, perhaps it’s worth checking out the very Crystal Castles-esque band, Purity Ring, who have recently released their debut album ‘Shrines’. Happy listening!
